MBN on track for a record year!

Glasgow-headquartered MBN, the fast-growing search and recruitment consultancy, is on track for a record year having recorded a significant increase in activity in Scotland and across the UK in 2017.

The business is forecasting an uplift of approximately 15 per cent against 2016 (year to 31st January 2017) revenues of £4.2 million.

Working across multiple industry sectors and alongside companies ranging from startups to SMEs and larger corporates, including FTSE 100 constituents, approximately 60 per cent of MBN’s revenues are now derived from activity outside Scotland. At the same time, the maturity of the Scottish data and tech scene, particularly over the last 5 years, has seen revenues grow significantly in Scotland.

The consultancy has built expertise in data science, big data, analytics and technology, illustrated this year when the recruiter placed 50 The Data Lab-funded MSc data science students from seven universities across Scotland’s commercial and public sectors at organisations including the NHS, the Scottish Government, VisitScotland, Morgan Stanley, HSBC, Aggreko, STV, Aquila Insight and snap40.

Michael Young, CEO of MBN, said: “We are seeing a big shift in the market in terms of employer requirements with the adoption of in-house data capabilities, demand for skills in scaleable, open source technologies and the overall complexity of data-driven roles to the fore. We have carefully built a team with deep industry understanding and it’s great to see the successful business outcomes coming through, not only for MBN but across our client base.”

Robin Huggins, Head of Business Development at MBN, said: “Data science challenges and opportunities increasingly determine the commercial success of every organisation. ‘Data Scientist 2.0’ is our term for a super candidate. He or she has a mix of technical know-how and the softer business skills that can underpin an organisation’s path to digital transformation.”

Founded in 2007, the MBN team is now up to 25 and recently hired 3 more people to match increased activity this year.

Looking to the future!

MBN Solutions had a brilliant day working on our Company vision.

The programme; led by Andrew Sillitoe (Strategic Team Coaching), was set out to align all MBN staff members with a compelling vision, behaviours and create an action plan that will deliver consistent results.

The day consisted on working on 5 main areas of the business:
– The Vision
– Our Image
– Our Behaviours
– The results we want
– The process in order to gain these results.

Michael Young, CEO:
“We had an excellent day delivered by Andrew Sillitoe. It was great to go off site with all of the MBN team to collectively look at creating a compelling vision, behaviours and an action plan that will deliver consistent results. The team spent time looking at and working on behaviours and performance goals required for creating a high performance culture that will give our business a competitive advantage.”

With great discussion, group work and some interesting drawing skills…we all set out goals/objectives; both collaboratively and individually, in order to move forward and achieve our overall company vision.

#TeamMBN compete in Glasgow’s Business Fives

#TeamMBN had a brilliant time playing at the Business Fives 17 competition in Glasgow this month.

It was great to see so many businesses get involved in the Glasgow Business Fives heat.

There was great sportsmanship throughout the games and we are happy to say we got as far as the semi-finals.

MBN Raised £140 for children with Cancer but overall there was more than £1000 raised.

Children with Cancer is MBN’s chosen charity for 2017.

Our Just Giving Page

Children with Cancer UK

Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. Almost 4,000 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. The charity’s aims are to determine the causes, find cures and provide care for children with cancer.

The strapline for Children with Cancer UK is ‘fighting the UK’s biggest child killer’. Sadly cancer is still the most common medical cause of death beyond infancy in children and young people in the UK. When Children with Cancer UK refers to a ‘child’ we use the definitions from the Office of National Statistics – meaning children aged from 1 to 15.

March - DONE

Mighty Deerstalker
The UK’s biggest night race.

In the Scottish borders, this 10k is probably the hardest

off-road-Tweed-clad-pipe-lit-plus-four-and-headtorch-wearing run that exists. You are sent across rivers, through forests and over a mountain or 2 in the pitch dark of a chilly March night.

June - DONE

Tough Mudder
10-12 miles, 20+ obstacles

Held at Drumlanrig Castle, Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile mud and obstacle course designed to drag you out of your

comfort zone by testing your physical strength, stamina, and mental grit. With no podiums, winners, or clocks to race against, it’s not about how fast you can cross the finish line. Rather, it’s a challenge that emphasizes teamwork, camaraderie, and accomplishing something almost as tough as you are.

Coast to Coast
Run, Ride and Kayak 105 miles

across the Scottish Highlands. The route of this two-day challenge takes in some of the most mysterious and wild locations in Scotland. Run, ride and kayak past Cawdor Castle, Loch Ness, Glen Nevis and Glen Coe, to name but a few stunning sights! The Highland terrain and weather breeds tough folk and if you take on this challenge then you will find out why.

At MBN, we’re more than just another recruitment business. We are a full service People Solutions business specialising in finding and securing the very best staff and talent for our clients. This requires us to have an in depth knowledge and appreciation for the sectors and skill areas in which we operate.

Our thought leadership can be seen on our website, but it is the compilation of such commentary that allows us to share our unique insight. MBN decided in 2012 to launch a series of regular events where we invite industry leaders, clients and interested parties to share an evening of networking, presentations and general insight into the areas of our subject matter expertise, namely, Technology, Data Science & Analytics and Digital Initiatives.
