Fantastic day at #ScotChain17

#ScotChain17

MBN prides itself with being at the forefront of recruitment services for Data Science, Insight and Analytics and related Technology skills. Key to our success and growth in this important sector has been the development of world class thought leadership and creation of events to allow skilled practitioners and business leaders to hear from leading global professionals and to network with likeminded people.  Over time, these events have grown in stature and significance and for us, it was only a matter of time before we extended our reach.

ScotChain16 last year saw Edinburgh host a hugely successful event attended by over 200 leading global Blockchain experts and business leaders debating and challenging the hype, the reality and ultimately, the best use cases.

12months on, the conversation around Blockchain has rapidly changed. We’re only now starting to understand this technology’s real, practical and full potential, and this means that there is still much to discover and explore.

The buzz we experienced surrounding Blockchain technology has started to take a different tone and it is this different tone that ScotChain17 explored.

Last year, the conversation mainly revolved around financial services. This year we saw subject matter and topics of discussion going far beyond the traditional or well-known use cases.

Staged once again at RBS Conference Centre; Edinburgh, we had a fantastic day ahead of us filled with exciting topics, case studies and great speakers from different areas of the world.

MBN Solutions are thrilled to announce that we have been appointed official partners of
The Data Lab Scotland MSc. Placement Project again for 2017/18.

Following on from last year’s success, the Data Lab intake has increased from 90 funded places across 7 universities, to 130 places across 11. This development highlights the growing demand to deliver the best of the best data skills into private and public sector businesses throughout Scotland.

To facilitate this, The Data Lab have partnered with MBN Solutions through their MBN Academy vehicle.

MBN Academy is the part of the MBN Solutions business model dedicated to acting as a bridge between academia and commercial organisations. Recognising the need for a function of this type, we have developed strong relationships with a variety of Universities and Academic Institutions throughout the country.

We showcase careers within the markets that we operate in, act as a liaison partner to introduce other businesses into the academic space, develop Employability skills within student cohorts through our #MBNSkills program, and champion the success that collaborations of this type can bring in projects.

The MSc. Placement Project for the Data Lab funded students is to offer a 10-12 week paid industrial placement during the summer across a huge variety of Scottish businesses. Placements must be focused in data science, data engineering, analytics or any other similar fields.

After bidding in an open tender with success – we are the lead liaison from initial host companies expressing interest to when the placements actually begin. This includes providing suitable guidance about timelines, application processes, interviews and all other requirements.

MBN welcome two new consultants
to the team!

As a leading global provider of people solutions, MBN is only as good as our people. Every day, we play a vital role in helping client organisations to identify the very best people to help them to create value and grow with confidence.  One characteristic in common with all of the organisations we work with is that they have very high expectations of our consultants.  As part of an ongoing growth strategy, we respond by recruiting truly outstanding people.

As a fast paced, agile business, it is vitally important that MBN recruits the best talent and the best fit individuals to join the company. On this occasion we welcome Neil Paylor & Mark Ferns to the MBN team!

Neil has a degree in sports and exercise science from Abertay University. He was a full time football coach for 2 years and has been in the recruitment industry for over a year now.

Mark comes for a sales background. He got into recruitment about a year ago where he focused on recruiting sales people from Glasgow and the West. After getting a years experience he wanted to find a new challenge and he felt MBN was the perfect opportunity to further his career.

Both consultants have joined at an exciting time. We look forward to their contribution and wish them the best of luck.

Prof Bill Buchanan OBE, PhD,

FBCS &

Robin Huggins - MBN Solutions

Thanks to everyone who attended Scotland Data Science and Technology’s meetup this month.

Special thanks for Professor Bill Buchanan and Robin Huggins

Bill; a Professor in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University, and a Fellow of the BCS and the IET,  spoke about how data can drive improved health care and well-being, and outlined a range of research projects which use data as a key driver for improved care. His presentation also outlined new architectures and methodologies for the sharing of health and social care data across the agencies involved within the care of the citizen.

Robin; Head of Business Development at MBN Solutions, discussed the findings of last year's MSc.Placement Programme and the importance of domain expertise in the Data Scientist 2.0’s toolkit and what the Scottish Data Science landscape looks like in terms of demand for technologies, software and techniques.

Thanks to Edinburgh Napier Merchiston Campus for hosting us!

If you are interested in Data Science, Big Data, Analytics and Technology trends, come and join out monthly meetups.

Held every month alternating from Glasgow to Edinburgh. We hope to cover skills shortages, technological advancements and organisational implications in Data Science and Technology during our series of meetups. All skill levels are welcome.
